New year's resolutions 2010

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS 2010 Ah, the year draws to a close. I think about 2009 and mentally total up the experiences. My resolution last year was to quit smoking and as of right now it has been 11 months and 19 days since my last cigarette. I feel like such progress has been made. I also resolved to do more things that are free and beautiful, and I did just that. This was the year of my community garden, the year I finally made it to New York City and so many other wonderful things. I really have cultivated my own happiness in this last chapter and I'm ready to begin again. The solstice approaches. The tilt of the Earth is at it's very edge and we are at the top of the roller coaster. The first few cars are already over the edge... Here we go. So to start off on the right foot, a reiteraction of resolutions past -Stop spending $ at gas stations. They sell nothing but plastic and convience, and our worst addictions! America would be Super without them. -Quit smoking cigarettes. Don't pay them to control you and kill you. Breathe easy and with two free hands. -Dont forget that your $ is your vote New for 2010 -waste not paper cups for coffee, nor plastic bottles for water -eat more veggies (especially greens) and less animal products - gain control of my addictions, do not allow addiction to control me -expand my Spanish vocabulary -cook more meals at home -become physically stronger (not just exersize, but useable muscle) -increase my monthly income but not the amount of time I spend working -play more chess against more opponents -write a book of poetry -fall in love -clean my house I must say, I'm really looking forward to this next year. In the words of my dear friend Carrie "2010 is the year of my emancipation".

The Hook

          Family
                 fish hook
                          sunk deeply.
----------Every time I try to sort it out>
                          I have to start
                a bit further
          back.

Untitled

Dirty drug. I think I must be going crazy.
Put two shaky checks in the mail today and
I'm going out tomorrow night
-either way.

I wasn't kidding. Nobody laugh.
I didn't mean it to come out like that
with the hard edge of the tip of my tounge
and I'm biting my lip again
-tasting blood.

Sweet drug, this wasted life is
yours to warp and render.
I'm licking my chops and the sticky
tips of my fingers, swearing
it tastes just like the real thing.

As something worth mention begins to
take shape and I'm still waiting
but it's wearing off now, I'm coming down
(alone again) ignoring the cost of it all and
the taste in my mouth

Something like my own heart beating
pleading with me to just let it go.

Civil Disobedience

My 1st arrest

When they came they gave us Peace signs
the honkers and the smiling, waving
parade types
I returned the smiles, cause I knew what we were up to and I knew
it was ganna change some minds.

We brought some of our own signs, and thinking about it now
I wish mine said “This traffic jam
brought to you by the WAR in America”

And then we took the street,
stepping out in front of SUVs
with barricades and cones
to –wait- for the police.
And watching as they’re realizing
that we won’t move unless someone
makes us, they got a little anxious
about the possibility that this
was happening.

Sitting there in cars crunched to a halt,
their daily commute intruded upon by an
occupation of WAR and on their cell phones
I saw the conversations begin,
traveling out by satellite
an idea like a wake up call.

Their expressions disbelief and dispositions
to reject me as a nuisance in their otherwise
unchallenged lives of misinformation and out right lies.
They paid attention, alright.
But some paid with their lives and I do not apologize
for bringing that to light in the street
the day we made
a parking lot audience of the passers by.

But go ahead, and call that a crime.

Lessons in Ascension

Stalks climb
like hands reaching
out & up.

The opposite gesture
of hands in prayer
together & closed.

Leaves open
to let the light in
swallow (gulp, gulp)

unlike those so opposed
they shield their eyes
like they'd go blind
if they looked up.
